3rd Annual Detroit New Works Festival
is scheduled for June 22-23, 2019 at the Marlene Boll Theatre in Detroit
Submissions for the festival will be accepted October 1-November 15
The Detroit New Works Festival aims to showcase playwrights, promote new plays and musicals which focus on the subjects of equality and diversity, mental health, and/or social issues, and encourage community in the theatrical process.
Through the DNWF, Outvisible Theatre Company produces five staged readings of new plays, holds post-show discussions for play development, and one show will be given the opportunity be produced as a World Premiere the following season.
Full-length or one-act plays and musicals accepted (no song cycles or adaptations), 60 minutes in length or longer
Must address one of the following: equality and diversity, mental health, and/or social issues
Must have never been produced prior to June 22, 2019
Must have the ability to be produced with minimal set, costume, and prop requirements in accordance with Outvisible’s commitment to imaginative and minimalistic theatre
Must be able to be produced with eight actors or less
Musicals must be able to be played with only one pianist (production winner may be able to add additional instrumental scoring)
Must be able to attend festival June 22-23, 2019 in the Detroit area
In order the win the DNWF, the work must not be scheduled for future production
IF CHOSEN AS A SEMIFINALIST: You will be notified on or before January 1, 2019.
IF CHOSEN AS A FINALIST: You will be notified on or before February 1, 2019. All finalists chosen who live more than 50 miles from Detroit will receive one night accommodation in a Detroit-area hotel and a $250 travel stipend to offset flight/rental car costs.
